I am a History PhD student at the University of South Carolina, Columbia.

 

My dissertation analyzes how nineteenth-century American women used horseback riding and horsemanship to enrich their lives. My dissertation demonstrates how women did so by using horseback riding to challenge gender expectations, to establish their horsemanship expertise, and to build female-dominated social networks.
